The ultimate Introduction to Ceramics that satisfies your love for plants and your need to play with clay. The shape/form of your new Chia “friend” is entirely up to you!
In this class you will learn the fundamentals of ceramic handbuilding: coilling, pinching, and slab making. After creating the base in the desired form, you will then learn decorating techniques with tools, textures, and finishing touches.
You will also learn the typical drying and firing processes for clay. After we will go over the planting process and care instructions. By the end of this class students will have created their very own Chia “pet” planter, which they can take home and watch grow over time.
Beginner level – This class is suitable for all skill levels.
Times: 7PM – 9PM
Cost: $50/Person (materials and needed tools provided by 757 Makerspace)
Chia Friend Planters will be left behind for drying/firing and coordinated for pick up the following week.
Note: Participants should wear clothing to get dirty in, as glazing can be messy. Also avoid wearing jewelry or loose clothing that could get caught in tools or materials. Feel free to bring an apron or coveralls.
