In a move that underscores its commitment to growth and community impact, the Downtown Norfolk Council (DNC) has announced two key appointments: Byron Edwards as Selden Market Manager and Paul Stetson Rice as Director of Marketing & Communications. These strategic hires aim to further cement Downtown Norfolk as a thriving hub for business, creativity, and innovation.
Byron Edwards joins DNC with over 15 years of experience in arts and entertainment. He has collaborated with major brands and worked alongside influencers and celebrities, driving cultural impact through his storytelling and engagement strategies. Edwards’ impressive career includes roles at ViacomCBS on the Corporate Communications team for BET Networks, social impact leadership at The Shade Room, and award-winning influencer engagement with Color of Change. His contributions to Color of Change earned him two Webby Awards, further solidifying his reputation as an innovator.
At Selden Market, Edwards is ready to nurture Norfolk’s entrepreneurial spirit. “As someone deeply invested in creative and entrepreneurial communities, I see incredible potential to nurture local talent and create meaningful connections,” Edwards shared.
Paul Stetson Rice steps into the Director of Marketing & Communications role, bringing his expertise in marketing, communications, and project management. A Norfolk native, Rice’s passion for the community shines through his work, including his leadership of Norfolk Currents, a local media company where he cultivated client relationships, managed media production, and achieved significant growth.
Rice, a graduate of Virginia Tech with degrees in Economics and Political Science, is deeply embedded in the local community. He serves on the boards of the Norfolk Innovation Corridor and YIMBY Hampton Roads and is Co-President of the West Ghent Civic League. “As a Norfolk native, I am thrilled to contribute to the continued growth and vitality of Downtown Norfolk. I look forward to promoting Downtown as a premier destination for residents, businesses, and visitors,” Rice said.
The DNC is a private, not-for-profit membership organization that has long been a driving force behind Downtown Norfolk’s success. It manages the Downtown Norfolk Improvement District, a 50-block area focused on enhanced safety, cleanliness, and public engagement. With these new additions to the team, DNC is poised to continue delivering on its mission of fostering a dynamic, attractive, and prosperous Downtown.
