In an exciting move to elevate the charm and allure of Downtown Norfolk, the Downtown Norfolk Council (DNC) has awarded Vibrancy Grants to four standout local businesses: Jim White Fitness & Nutrition Studios, Details on Granby, Prince Books, and Three Ships Coffee. These grants will transform these businesses’ exterior, enhancing the downtown area’s overall appeal.
Jim White Fitness & Nutrition Studios
Jim White Fitness & Nutrition Studios, a community cornerstone for over nine years, has utilized the grant to install new windows, brightening both the studio and the upper-floor residences. This update enhances the historic building’s appearance and fosters a welcoming atmosphere on College Place.
Details on Granby, known for its custom-made suits and ties, has revamped its storefront with a new awning, refreshed woodwork, updated logos, and freshly painted columns. Owner Verrandall Tucker expressed his excitement, stating, “The Vibrancy Grant has really allowed us to give our facade the refresh it deserves, making our storefront so much more welcoming to our customers.”
Prince Books
Prince Books, a beloved staple in Downtown Norfolk, received a grant to install a new blade sign designed to catch the eye of passersby and draw them into the store’s diverse collection of books. Owner Sarah Pishko remarked, “We know the new sign will make a significant difference. It is sure to catch the eye of Downtown visitors, encouraging them inside to our displays and bookshelves.”
Three Ships Coffee
Three Ships Coffee, a daily favorite among locals, has transformed its corner at the Assembly building with a new French-inspired patio. The coffee shop now offers an even more inviting space for residents and employees to gather, featuring bistro seating, urban gardening, and distinctive black and white market umbrellas.
Careyann Weinberg, the newly appointed Director of Economic Vitality for the Downtown Norfolk Council, shared her enthusiasm: “We are thrilled to support these businesses in their efforts to enhance the street-level aesthetic of Downtown Norfolk. Each project not only improves the individual business but also contributes to the overall appeal of our Downtown area.”
Details on Granby
Since its inception in 2014, the Vibrancy Grant program has funded more than 30 projects, awarding over $230,000 to various Downtown businesses. This initiative, which provides matching grants covering up to 50% of business expenses for exterior improvements, underscores DNC’s commitment to fostering a dynamic and attractive Downtown Norfolk.
